As a horticulturist & photographer. You can usually find me outside, knee-deep in dirt, photographing plants and looking slightly rumpled.
Initially intent on running a small herb farm, I now own and run Kelly Ash, Botanical & Floral Photography out of my studio in a small cottage by the beach. Although I have attended an assortment of photographic workshops and courses at the Maine College of Art and assisted a couple of local photographers, I am mostly a self-taught photographer. The better part of my photographic knowledge comes from combining hard learned technical skills, reading and intuition.
I have been gardening and since a small child (if I am honest, in the beginning I made more of a mess than actual yard work, but what do you expect from a 5 year old?!) and have continued gardening throughout my life. Having worked for a variety of nurseries & state parks throughout high school and college, I went on and graduated From Texas Tech University with my Master of Science degree in Horiculture in 2008. I love growing & gardening and am currently a Maine Master Gardener. My own gardens are always a work in progress, designs ever-changing and will probably never be fully complete.
Recently, my blogging has lead to writing horticultural and gardening articles as ‘The Sea Gardener’ for for Parisienne Farmgirl Magazine and as ‘The Down and Dirty Gardener‘ for the Cumberland County Master Gardener Newsletter.
When not photographing, writing or digging in the dirt, I can often be found cuddled up with a good book, canning my own food or working on some creative project. I love plants and gardens, the beach and the sea, flea & farm marketing and just about anything old & vintage.
Living in a small house full of lovely, old, painted furniture which I adore, I am living living the dream of a simple life in a cottage by the sea in Maine with my adorable, always-prepared Eagle Scout of a husband, two totally lovable yet slightly overly-attached dogs and a cat who is under the impression he is the king of the castle!
Talk to you soon,
